Abstract of the talk

    Chemicallooping represents a class of novel processes that split conventionallyhomogeneous, sometimes catalytic reactions, into multiple steps, which areperformed in multiple reactors. By doing so, the thermodynamic efficiency ofthe process can be significantly improved by (i) removing the need for productremoval, (ii) precise control of the redox environment and (iii) separately activatingreactants at preferential conditions. However, the design and engineering ofeconomically viable, thermodynamically feasible, kinetically reactive andcyclically durable looping materials remains the most challenging task for theadvancement of chemical looping technologies. In this seminar, the designconsiderations associated with the engineering of high performance oxygencarriers will be briefly discussed. We will introduce some of the computationaltools that can be used to aid the design of novel oxygen carriers.
